The fact that people only need to work with content and links to be a good SEO is a bit too oversimplified. Even though quality content and links are important but they are just pieces of a puzzle. There are other integral components in SEO like UX, site structure etc. that can’t be ignored.

Jack of all Trades

A good SEO should have a holistic understanding of the different parts of SEO that are On-page, Off-page, and Technical SEO. Rather than just focusing on two aspects of a broad field a good SEO should craft and then follow a well-planned strategy that is aimed at achieving the following objectives for a business:

  • Sales of the product/service
  • Brand Awareness
  • Product/Service Awareness
  • Traffic on the brand’s website
  • Leads
  • Revenue for the brand

Additionally, SEO is multifaceted and each facet plays an important part in the success of the website. Below is a breakdown of the main aspects that good SEOs need apart from content and links.

Now SEO is a very technical field and involves a lot of different technical elements like crawling, indexing, sitemaps, etc. Now a good SEO should have a solid grasp on all the technical elements of the process. Working on technical SEO ensures that the search engines are crawling and indexing your website thereby enabling your website to get ranked on SERPs. Here are a few things that an SEO should learn in the technical area of SEO:

  • Website Speed
  • Mobile-friendliness
  • Website Structure – your website should have a clear and logical structure so that the search engine can understand the hierarchy of the content.
  • Schema Markup – is additional information about the content that you provide to the search engines. Schema markup helps your website have richer results on the SERPs.

Search Engines prioritize users’ benefits over everything else therefore while trying to rank you should always think about an action’s impact on the user’s satisfaction. Whether be it producing content or creating a website, the user should always be in the mind of a good SEO. This is why sites that deliver a positive user experience have a higher chance of ranking on the SERPs. A good UX helps SEO in a number of ways, here’s how:

  • A good user experience offers a clear navigation for the users to easily navigate the website without any inconvenience.
  • A positive UX makes users stay on your website for longer which is a good indicator for SEO.
  • UX also ensures a faster loading speed which helps users get through different pages and sections of the website without any inconvenience.

In conclusion, SEO is a diverse field with a lot of different sub-fields that needs to be mastered before becoming a good SEO. Content and Links may be a very important component of SEO but SEO doesn’t exhaust these two components and includes several other components like site structure, UX, schema markup, etc. A rounded understanding of all the spectrums are compulsory to be a good SEO.
